Intro
I’ve had this cigar and other from the line rested and a conversation long ago was that these might be “Opus killers”. Well… maybe not killers, but that they were great cigars and quite comparable to Opus. Now, I do love me some aged Opuseses. So, I figured I’d age one of these out to the 4 years since that’s my personal peak for more Opus.

I’ll call this a first impressions review because, even though I’ve had this cigar, this will be the first at this stage of aging.

Pre-light
A smell of very light mix of peppers and the pre-light flavors on the cold draw bring more of the same.

Flavor
Initial puffs are quite floral with a combination of cedar and very light espresso. More of the florals are picked up on the retrohale. I usually attribute this combo and lightness to a cigar that is moved passed its prime. I’m only in the first few puffs so I haven’t given up hope on this stick.

An inch in and this cigar really opens up. Red pepper on the back on my tongue. A soft sugars cedar is mixed in with the combination of peppers and spices.

White ash that’s somewhat flaky and a straight-ish burn line. The draw is great with a good amount of smoke production.

At the halfway point and I’ve been getting a delicate mix of peppers and spice with some anise, light cedar, and mild floral. I’m glad the flavors picked up after the first inch. This is a nice relaxing smoke so far.

I almost forgot to update! Lol. I truly lost myself in this cigar. At this point I can only best describe this as a couple year old Tatuaje had sex with an Opus and made this gem. Peppers, spices, sweet tobacco, light cedar, light bread, and light anise. Quite complex.

Conclusion
I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying a box and smoking one every quarter so that I can find the prime aging time on these. Is a 4 year Rodrigo an Opus Killer IMO? No, but I like that. They are in a class of their own and even though it started of mild, the aged Rodrigo Habano Classico really shined as a great stick in its own right.

Love Rodrigo Cigars....George is a great guy and have traded a lot of emails with him since he first got into producing his Boutique Brand. I wouldn't equate them with an Opus...but your review was pretty accurate. Been buying nearly all of his stuff and his association with Ventura just solidifies ...
